Our small groups are going through a transition.  We no longer strictly hold to the Life Transformation Group model for small groups but are giving the groups freedom to explore what practices might be transformative for them.  Some groups are reading a book about a specific topic or issue, some are practicing spiritual disciplines, some are trying a one-to-one discipleship approach and others are using the LTG practice of reading lots of Scripture.  The groups continue to be gender exclusive groups of two or three people and generally meet weekly.  There is no leader nor explicit structure for these groups; as a result, each group takes on its own personality.  The goal of these groups is to increase in wisdom and spiritual maturity and to multiply disciples; thus when a group reaches four people it splits into two groups of two.  Here are the three marks of our small groups:

Scripture:  

All of the groups have a Scriptural component to them.  Some groups continue to urge each other to read 20 to 30 chapters of Scripture in a week.  Others are focused on memorizing smaller portions of Scripture in an attempt to internalize God's word.  Still others are more specifically studying passages from Scripture to learn from them.

Accountability:

We continue to ask people to hold each other accountable using the Life Transformation Group questions.  This isn't just a recital of what we've done wrong in the past week, but rather a focus on where we've gone astray with an intention to get on the right track.  For a list of the quesitons our LTGs ask, click here.

Prayer:

We've asked our small groups to commit to praying for other people.  Specifically, we pray for those who are not living as disciples of Jesus Christ in the desire that they share the hope we have.  Examples of how we pray can be found here.
